During the gameplay, the player can drive three different vehicles such as Slug Truck, Slug Gigant, and Slug Armor.
The character equips with a pistol in the beginning and can upgrade his weapon by collecting power-ups. There are three level difficulties available such as Beginner, Normal and Hard. The player needs to select his character and jump into the world where he has to navigate the environment, fight against evil soldiers, and beat the boss at the end of each level. There are different characters available such as Marco Rossi, Eri Kasamoto, Tarma Roving, Foilina Germi, Ralf Jones, and more. It is the 8th installment in the series of Metal Slug and the 1st in the series that would be released without an arcade version.
